I am married with three children and live on a small farm, near the village of Toames, five miles from Macroom.

After qualifying as a midwife in Germany in 1983, I worked in two major maternity units and a small cottage hospital for about two years each, as well as working independently, mainly doing post natal support.

My first Irish home birth baby was born on 1st January 1990.

Elke delivered my first born in June 2017. I was really pleased and felt very comfortable giving birth under her care. The prenatal care was thorough and well organized, coordinated with the local gp and hospital. Elke is amazing the service she provides is just outstanding. This was my second pregnancy my first pregnancy was a water birth which was in a hospital in oz. I had such a great experience with this I wanted to do it again for my second pregnancy but it is not an option provided to women in hospitals here so I went looking into the home birth option. I contacted Elke and straight away I felt like I knew her with years she was so helpful and kind. Knowing I would have the same midwife all the way through was great especially for the actual birth as it was like having a friend by my side instead of a midwife. My husband also felt completely comfortable around Elke and was grateful to have her at our sons birth. We trusted her completely and she gave us the freedom to make our own decisions while always being there should we ask. My son is a month old now and I can honestly say that I miss Elke's visits and anyone who has Elke as their midwife are really blessed. Elke delivered my second baby boy who is now six weeks old. I can't thank her enough for what she has done for us! I contacted her early in my pregnancy, really just curious about homebirth and wanting more information but not sure if it was right for me. Elke didn't try to sell homebirth to me but was honest and realistic. Straightaway I knew it was for me and I wanted her to be my midwife. Elkes support throughout my pregnancy made me feel calm and secure. She is very professional but also down to earth and really easy to get along with. I felt very comfortable with her. My homebirth couldn't have gone any better and that is largely down to having Elke as my midwife.
She looked after me for 2 weeks after birth and I was really sad to see her go after her final visit. If I ever have another baby I would really hope to be able to have her by my side again.
