Kirsty trained and worked as a Midwife in a large tertiary NHS hospital in Southampton, qualifying in 2016. First as a core midwife on labour ward/high risk antenatal and postnatal wards, then as a community midwife and finally as a case-loading Midwife supporting home births and women needing more focused care.

Kirsty moved back to Ireland in 2020 and now works as a staff midwife on labour ward at UHK in Tralee, Kerry in conjunction as an SECM supporting women having home births in the locality.

Before becoming a midwife Kirsty specialised in holistic care for pregnancy, labour and the postnatal period and continues to combine evidence based knowledge from both pathways including yoga, massage, acupressure, reflexology, baby massage and aromatherapy, where clinically appropriate.

Testimonials

Calm and peaceful atmosphere

Ellmarie, is an amazing midwife, whom I wholeheartedly recommend.

She delivered my second baby girl Wilmina in March. It was a really fast and intense labour.

The one to one care and support I received throughout my pregnancy, birth and after delivery was just amazing.

I really appreciated the calm and peaceful atmosphere that Ellmarie and my second midwife Mary brought to my birth. They did not rush any aspect of it, and encouraged me to work through the process at my own pace and i received constant positive feedback. Each of them brought something unique to the situation, and I particularly appreciated Ellmarie’s support towards the end, when I needed help knowing what to focus on, just before my baby was born.

All this made my birth experience a really positive & happy one. Verena,

Patience, warmth and humour

Thank you Ellmarie our wonderful home birth midwife for your patience, warmth and humour, your advice and knowledge and your professionalism and support throughout our first pregnancy and birthing journey. What a beautiful way to welcome our little boy into the world in the safety and comfort of our own home. We would highly recommend the Homebirth scheme and we look forward to beginning our next journey with you 😉x

Passion and absolute love

On discovering I was pregnant over 4 years ago I didn't know much about the maternity system in Ireland but I did know, I wanted to be supported, I wanted to be cared for in a holistic & personal way & I wanted my baby to be minded by someone who had a passion & absolute love for what they did. I found it all in Ellmarie. I had a beautiful pregnancy, minded & supported every step of the way. Every question, every concern & every new experience was met with love. I was guided, hand in hand throughout the pregnancy & it was so reassuring & wonderful to have such a knowledgeable, thorough professional at my side. After 9 months of preparation, The labour started, then stopped & started again until it got too unmanageable & I reluctantly went to hospital but all was well as Ellmarie was still there at my side. The labour wasn't what I had hoped for but my beautiful baby boy was born. I felt confident leaving the hospital after one night as I knew Ellmarie would continue to guide me on my journey. Ellmarie was there for me & my baby Michael day or night & in that vulnerable time as all first time mothers can identify with, I felt such support & kindness. Ellmarie took the time to not only to look after mine & Michaels physical health but also spent the time to ensure I was well emotionally. This was invaluable to me.

Fast forward 2 years later & I was delighted to be pregnant again. Ellmarie was phoned immediately & so our story began again. Again I had a beautiful pregnancy, healthy & well & all the while minded again so wonderfully. & so just like Michael at plus 9 days the labour started & I hoped that second time round I would deliver at home. Everything was progressing well & fast. Ellmarie was with me, quiet & calm reassuring me all was well & it was. I was allowed the space just to be, to own this beautiful moment in my life. The birth of my baby daughter Béibhinn at home was the proudest & most profound moment of my life. It was the most perfect introduction for Béibhinn & a beautiful start to her little life. Ellmarie is more than a midwife to our family, she is part of the fabric of our family & we love her dearly. Aileen, Passage West
